Aloha Mixed Plate

“You gotta sample ‘da Mixed Plate”

If you want to experience local flavors, unique Maui cuisine, and a taste of Hawaiian history – Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina is not to be missed! Resulting from the early sugar plantation days in Hawaii when laborers were brought from all over the world, the mixed plate is a local staple with a culture all its own. Dating back to the 1880s, diverse laborers would gather in the fields for their mid-day lunch break, sharing stories and ethnic home cuisines: Filipinos would bring pork or chicken stew, Koreans offered up their kalbi, Hawaiians brought kalua pig, and Japanese shared teriyaki beef. Thus, the mixed plate arrived, bridging local Hawaiian tradition and the ethnic diversity that has become a part of Hawaii’s rich landscape.

On the Menu at Aloha Mixed Plate

Chow Mein, Asian Chicken Salad, Kalbi Ribs, Coconut Prawns, Chow Funn, Laulau, Lomilomi, and Haupia are menu favorites at this aqua-colored restaurant. The pork is cooked next door in an imu at the Old Lahaina Luau. Traditionally, the mixed plate comes with the white rice and macaroni salad.
