Not only will you be treated to the best food, you will also experience the exciting art of Teppanyaki cooking, where knife-wielding chefs prepare delicious steak, seafood and chicken entrees right at your table. Dinner is served nightly from 5:30 pm – 10:30 pm with Super Sunset Specials available at the 5:30 pm and 6 pm seating.  Oku’s famous Sushi Bar is open until 11 pm, if you get the late night munchies. They suggest reservations, so be prepared for a wait if you haven’t called ahead, it gets very busy particularly on weekends. Call them at 808-667-5555 for reservations.  The proportions are generous, seafood is fresh and the prices are reasonable.  If you have not tried Oku’s sushi bar, it’s a must! The staff is hard working and the skill in making sushi is mastered as displayed in the art work they serve.

What is Teppanyaki?

Teppanyaki is a style of Japanese cuisine that uses an iron griddle to cook food. The word teppanyaki is derived from teppan, which means iron plate, and yaki, which means grilled, broiled or pan-fried. In Japan, teppanyaki refers to dishes cooked using an iron plate, including steak, shrimp, seafood and chicken. Modern teppanyaki grills are typically propane-heated flat surface grills, and are widely used to cook food in front of guests at restaurants. Teppanyaki grills are commonly confused with the hibachi or barbecue grills, which have a charcoal or gas flame and are made with an open grate design. With a solid griddle type cook surface, the teppanyaki is more suitable for smaller ingredients, such as chopped meat, fish, seafood and vegetables. At Kobe’s you can choose Teriyaki or Sukiyaki  Steak,  Hibachi Steak,  Teriyaki Steak and Chicken Combo, or a Vegetarian  Special from their Teppanyaki  Dinner menu, which includes a Teppan Shrimp appetizer, Shabu- Shabu Soup, Hibachi Vegetables, Steamed Rice and Hot Tea all at a very attractive price! Check them out online for a full menu here. They are located at 136 Dickenson Street in Lahaina.
